Built during the 8th and 9th centuries whilst the reign of the Syailendra Dynasty was going strong, the monument is nestled in the Kedu Valley, in the southern part of Central Java.

    Ijen Volcano

    Ijen sits on the Indonesian island of Java and is a group of volcanoes with a crater lake in the centre. The lake is known as blue fire crater due to the blue fire, a phenomenon that occurs when sulfur burns, that is present here. Blue fire is an electric-blue flame that has the appearance of lava but is in fact simply sulfuric gasses burning.
