INDONESIA TREKKING ADVENTURES

Fancy a sunshine holiday but with more emphasis on exploring in the sunshine rather than lying stationary on the beach? Indonesia could well be the country for you. Made up of over 17,000 islands with around 150 volcanoes, Indonesia is an awesome place to hike volcanic summits in warm weather and relax on white sandy beaches and swim in crystal waters afterwards. This tropical country attracts visitors from all over the world looking for romantic beaches, endless sea, island hopping and awesome food. There is also a rich history and culture in Indonesia, especially in the cities of Jakarta, Surabaya and in the island nation of Brunei, which is a separate country to Indonesia but sits on the north of Borneo.

The Indonesian islands are southeast of Malaysia, north of Australia and bridge the gap between the North Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. The largest islands in Indonesia are Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi and Papua which is the eastern most Indonesian territory bordered by New Guinea. Best known Indonesian islands include Bali, Lombok and Timor. Looking at an Indonesia map it might be difficult to pinpoint which parts are Indonesia and which parts belong to other countries, but this archipelago is a stunning place to visit for doing a lot or a little. Flights to Indonesia will depend on which islands you’re visiting and what you want to do whilst you’re there.


The best time to go to Indonesia is during the dry season from April to October. Chances are the weather will be clear, with occasional scattered showers but expect there to be more visitors during this season. To avoid the crowds, travel in spring in April or May, or September to October. The monsoon season is from November to March and whilst temperatures remain warm there will be rain at some point most days. As Indonesia sits on a Pacific volcanic ridge, earthquakes are common and there are around 75 active volcanoes across the islands. But don’t let this put you off. These formations are what make trekking in Indonesia so exciting.


Bali Indonesia

Probably the best-known island in Indonesia, Bali is known for its tropical beaches, laid back pace, watersports, nightlife and wildlife. To be honest, what’s not to like.
