When visiting Georgia, a trip is not complete without exploring some of the regions UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Mtskheta (the Ancient Capital of Georgia), the town of Kutaisi, Gelati Monastery and Village Ushguli.

The country of Georgia has a rich cultural heritage and it is perhaps best known for its picturesque medieval architecture, dating back to the 9th century, that still stands proud in the remote valleys of forgotten mountains. They mark the way for scenic paths, weaving through alpine meadows and over stunning high mountain passes, to the telltale clanging of cow’s bells. Here, the borders hold a turbulent past, with Russia invading and retreating in a tumultuous fashion. And yet, the people of Georgia are famed for their warm, welcoming attitudes and gentle nature.

The cities of Kutaisi and Tbilisi boast colourful, eccentric architecture in their old towns, alluding to the flamboyant past of this magnificent country. The juxtaposition between old and new in these cities in Georgia make for unusual and magnificent sites. Ancient sulphur baths, grand monasteries and intricate textiles can all be found amidst the narrow streets. Heading out of the cities and into the mountains, whether you want to do some gentle walking or summit a 5,000m peak, Georgia has it all. And once you are done, be sure to eat as much delicious Georgian cuisine as you can!
