Greenland can be a little tricky to get to, but this incredible Arctic country is most definitely worth the extra effort. Whilst geographically Greenland might be closer to North America, it is actually part of the European continent and like Svalbard is part of the Kingdom of Norway, Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is the largest island in the world and is located to the north of the Atlantic Sea, to the northwest of Iceland and northeast of Canada. Approximately 80% of Greenland is covered in ice, known as the Greenland Ice Sheet, which is the largest ice mass in the northern hemisphere. This wild and wonderful place is not only ice and Arctic conditions however. The stunning natural landscapes of Greenland are quite simply awe-inspiring, and home to a surprising amount of rare wildlife, unique habitats, arts, history and culture.
