How long should I spend in Indonesia?
This really depends on how far you need to travel to get there and what you want to do. For those travelling from the UK or US it's a long journey, so you will want to spend at least 10 days exploring. At Kandoo Adventures we offer a 14 day exploration of the volcanoes of Java and Bali and an action packed 11 day multi-activity trip. -
Why is Indonesia so popular?
Indonesia has an awful lot to attract foreign travellers! The food is incredible, the culture fascinating, there are ancient temples, dense jungles, active volcanoes and insane landscapes. Not to mention the beautiful beaches and warm turquoise water. This is an amazing country that offers something for everybody, so it is no surprise people are heading there from all over the globe. -
When is the best time to visit Indonesia?
April to October is the dry season in Indonesia. This does not mean that there will be no rain at all, scattered showers can reasonably be expected. The islands are hot and humid with an average temperature between 20°C and 27°C. This is the best time to visit Indonesia but also the busiest. To get the best of the weather but avoid the crowds, consider travelling in April, May or late September. -
Is Indonesia safe?
Although Indonesia is not considered to be a dangerous place to travel, petty crime is common especially in urban areas. You should take the same precautions you would anywhere else in the world. Keep valuables on your person and out of sight in a zipped up pocket while on your trekking adventure in Indonesia. -
Do I need a visa for Indonesia?
United States and UK passport holders do not require a visa to enter Indonesia for a period of less than 30 days. On arrival you will be granted a maximum 30 day stay in the country. How fit do I need to be to go on the Volcanoes trip?
Our volcanoes adventure is rated as 4/5 challenging. You will be required to walk for up to 11 hours a day with a maximum ascent of 1500m and maximum descent of 2000m. The Rinjani trek part of the trip is sandy underfoot in some places and has a steep descent through slippery, jungle floor so being fit and healthy and capable on rough terrain is a must for this adventure. -
Are there any options for cultural day tours prior to or after my trip?
Yes, if you wish to spend the days before or after your trip immersing yourself in local culture including dance and cookery classes, supporting a local NGO with some project work or a tour of the temples then speak to a member of our team and they can help organise this for you. -
What kit do I need for the Volcanoes trek?
See our equipment list for a full overview of kit that will be needed on each trip. Generally for our trekking though, lightweight durable clothes and sturdy boots with good ankle support are recommended. -
Are there toilets whilst trekking?
Whilst you are on your trek a toilet and wash tent will be set up. The toilet tent will cover a hole in the ground and will be very basic facilities but will provide you with some privacy. The wash tent will include a wash basin and cold water. -
Is the snorkelling safe?
The places where we go snorkelling are specifically chosen because they are safe areas to swim and have minimal risk factors. All snorkelling is optional and should you feel nervous about entering the water at any point you can speak to one of our helpful guides and they will provide you with options to maximise your comfort levels and improve your experience. -
Is tipping compulsory in Indonesia?
Tipping when you are satisfied with the service you have received is customary in Indonesia. However, it is not mandatory and should be left to the discretion of each individual. We recommend a budget of $3 to $4 per person per day for tips. -
What are the hotels we stay in like?
We stay in 2* or 3* comfortable hotel accommodation with twin or double rooms and en-suite bathrooms. The hotels vary depending on location, but all are a good standard and in comparison to 2*/3* hotels in western countries some of the hotels we use are extremely nice! -
I have never been rafting before, will I be ok?
Absolutely! A raft is essentially a giant float and you will be head to toe kitted out in life jackets, helmets, the works! So don't worry, your guide will do the heavy lifting so you can sit back and enjoy the ride. -
What is canyoning?
Canyoning is descending a steep river via jumps and slides worn into the natural rock formations. You will have an expert guide to explain where is safe to jump or slide and to provide fun challenges along the way. -
Are Komodo Dragons dangerous?
Komodo Dragons aren't renowned for being placid, however when we encounter these species it is with an expert guide, keeping a distance, in a very low risk scenario. The local guides in the National Park monitor these animals on a daily basis and are extremely knowledgeable about when is and isn't an appropriate time to be close to them. -

Where will I fly into for the Bali Multi-Activity trip?
You will need to arrive at Denpasar on the island of Bali on day 1 of this adventure. The airport code is DPS.From the UK, Singapore Airlines and Qatar have convenient flights departing from Heathrow with 1 short stop on the way. Other airlines to consider from London include Malaysian and Turkish Airlines.Emirates provide convenient flights from Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, stopping briefly in Dubai.For travelers from the US, Qatar Airways have the most convenient flights from New York and Atlanta, stopping briefly in Doha. For those on the west coast, Cathay Pacific have flights via Hong Kong from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
