We firmly believe that good relationships are the core to a sustainable future and we pride ourselves on the strong relationships we have with our in country teams. Now, as we begin to expand and grow, we want to be able to give back and support the areas of lower economic development that we visit, supporting the local communities and people who call these places home. With this as a target, we are working to support our Nepalese team as they develop a new project, aimed at supporting the local children and community in the village of Hongong, (pronouced Hungung).

The Kandoo Foundation

The Kandoo Foundation is a Nepalese NGO, set up and run by Pimba, our manager in Nepal, and his incredible team of guides, some of whom originate from the community of Hongong.

The community of Hongong, home to the Bhote community, is where many of our guides grew up and so holds a place close to our hearts. The local community struggles with the low economic living conditions that unfortunately are prevalent in lots of rural Nepal. With no vehicle access, everything is carried by mule or on the backs of villagers which means that the community is forced to be very self sufficient. Many of the younger generation leave the village to seek work in the cities, leaving their families with less mouths to feed, but also less income. Again, as with lots of rural Nepal, the steep mountainside on which Hongong is built, is prone to landslides during the monsoon season, and several times this has wiped out large areas of the village. With little income or machinery available to replace the buildings that have been submerged quickly, it can take years for villagers who have been displaced to return to some form of home.

What are we doing to help?

We are supporting the foundation by fund the work that they are completing. For each booking we take to Nepal, $50 will be donated to the foundation and will go directly into the work they are doing. This money is then put towards funding the local children's education, covering medical fees for local community inhabitants and supporting the community to develop and improve their standards of living. So if you decide to travel with Kandoo to Nepal, you can pride yourself in the knowledge that you will be helping this small community to continue to flourish.
