The country of Tanzania is situated in East Africa, sharing its borders with Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda and Burundi to the northwest, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west and Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south. The country is known for its stunning coastline along the Indian Ocean, epic mountains and wealth of wildlife. Most famously, Tanzania’s national parks are home to the ‘Big Five’ – the lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.

Kilimanjaro is located in the north of Tanzania, close to the Kenyan border. As the tallest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro attracts adventurer-seekers from around the world looking to tick this impressive peak off their bucket list. Climbing Kilimanjaro is one of those life-changing experiences that will stay with you for years to come and the accomplishment is truly unmatched.

The best time of year to climb Kilimanjaro can be split into two separate periods. In the January to March trekking season, you can expect it to be colder and there is a higher chance of encountering snow at the top of the mountain. The June to October trekking season generally offers the best weather but this coincides with summer holidays in both Europe and America and can get very busy!

The Serengeti is great at any time of year, Ngorongoro is where you will have the best chance of seeing the ‘Big Five’ and Tarangire is where families of elephants congregate around the Tarangire River.

Another option is to extend your trip by spending an extra night 5,730m above sea level at Crater Camp. A truly unique place, Crater Camp is the highest campsite on Kilimanjaro and its’ remoteness means it is almost completely untouched and unvisited wilderness.
